a5c7b9f00b Everything changes for Eva when she receives a life insurance check accidentally made out for $5,000,000 instead of the expected $50 thousand. She and her best friend take the money and head out for the adventure of a lifetime. A retired widow who hits the jackpot when she receives a life insurance check mistakenly made out for $5,000,000 instead of $50.000. She and her best friend then take off, only to become media sensations and fugitives from justice. Eva Fenton (Shirley MacLaine) buries her husbandher best friend Maddie Reynolds (Jessica Lange) hysterically cries at the funeral. She's alone except for her daughter Crystal (Demi Moore) who is looking to sell her home. She is shocked when her husband's $50k life insurance arrives with an erroneous $5 million payout. Maddie's husband ran off with his young secretary and she's sick. Eva decides to take Maddie on a vacation to the Canary Islands where Eva falls for Chandler (Billy Connolly). Meanwhile, insurance investigator Alvin Vespucci (Howard Hesseman) and Crystal chase them to retrieve the money.

Andy Tennant may not be a top level director but the flaws here are mostly due to the writing. MacLaine and Lange try their best but they can't overcome the weak writing. It has some bad sitcom writing. When it tries to be broad, it doesn't know how to do it right. The only saving grace is the legendary actors on the screen. I stayed with this for them but I was not rewarded. Two old ladies prove that they still got the chops (Well three old ladies depending on how one feels about Demi More). Shirley MacLaine plays a recent widower whose collects her late husbands insurance check and discovers they made a typo worth five million dollars. Jessica Lange plays her down on her luck best friend who convinces her to keep the money and go on an adventure, with hilarious results.

Usually I use the word formulated when it comes to moviesa bad thing, except in Disney cartoons cause the formula works so well, but MacLaine and Lange prove that experience does come with agethey take this comedic formula and work it for everything it has too offer, making for quite a good comedy.

It's a great cast that also stars Demi Moore leaving the heavy MILF work to Jessica Lange in this filmshe plays MacLaine's uptight daughter, and Billy Connolly who plays Maclaine's love interest who seems to have a case of dementia. It's only of his funnier routines.

So while overall you seen this long formatted sketch before, it does matter who's giving the punch line. Lange and Maclaine deliver.
